History

This part of Wake County was known as the Forest District in 1805. The area was widespread and mainly included hardwoods and some pines, north of the Neuse River. Development first started in 1820, when Dr. Calvin Jones bought 615 acres. In the early 1900s, it was the home of one of the state's largest cotton mills, Royall Cotton Mill. Wake Forest is a welcoming town that over 36,000 residents  call home.

Fun Facts

Originally the home of Wake Forest University for 122 years, the school moved to Winston-Salem in 1956. The campus is now the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Planted during the Great Depression, the pecan grove at E. Carroll Joyner Park is managed to boost an annual crop.
