Welcome to Apex, North Carolina
The Peak of Good Living
Lifestyles
Surround yourself in the true spirit of Southern living in the charming community of Apex. Money Magazine just awarded Apex top honors in its "50 Best Places in America to Live" list - and we certainly understand why. Begin your adventure on the historic downtown streets lined with century-old buildings. While checking out the unique locally-owned businesses, make sure to peek into Moon and Lola, well-known for its monogrammed jewelry. Peak City Grill & Bar is a local favorite of many to eat while exploring the downtown area. Save room for a pastry, cupcake or dessert from Buttercream’s Bakery & Cakes. And if Italian is your choice of food fare, head up Williams Street for a meal at Daniel’s Restaurant.
Small-town living in Apex has its advantages. There is a farmer's market full of local fruits, vegetables and meat, jams, sauce, crafts and more. The Halle Cultural Arts Center - in the heart of town - has galleries, a theatre and studio space. The railroad played an important part in its history, and make sure that the North Carolina Railroad Museum and New Hope Valley Railway are on your list of things-to-do one weekend. It's only a quick 10-minute drive from downtown Apex.
Need to go outside for some heart-pumping activity… the Apex Community Park has walking and fitness trails, a 50-acre lake that highlights fishing, canoeing, kayaking and accessibility to ball courts and sports fields. The 160-acre Apex Nature Park features various sporting facilities and family-friendly concerts and movies in the amphitheatre during late summer and early fall. Knights Play Golf Center is a par-three course, that is fully-illuminated, allowing it to remain open for play until midnight.
Apex offers a relaxing suburban lifestyle within close proximity of big-city life. Just 20 minutes from downtown Raleigh, the town is easily accessible by interstate and highways.
History
First chartered in 1854, the railroad station community didn't have its first train pass through until 1869. Tobacco farming was essential to the community in the early 1900s. Fires in the early 1900s consumed numerous downtown buildings. Today, the well-preserved downtown easily takes residents and visitors back to an era from long ago.
Fun Facts
Downtown Apex, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, features 60 structures that were built between 1870 and 1940.
